Facts About Chestnut Run
ENERGY PRODUCTION
Generating Capacity: Chestnut Run will be a modern, highly efficient, natural gas electric-generating facility producing approximately 1,300 megawatts (MW) of electricity — enough to power up to 900,000 Ohio homes.
Energy for Ohio: Power generated by Chestnut will flow directly into the regional power system managed by PJM, supporting the electricity needs of Ohio.
State-of-the-Art Technology: Chestnut Run will use state-of-the-art combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology. The combined-cycle design produces electricity efficiently: 1) Natural gas produces more energy per unit of fuel than other fossil fuel sources 2) the facility’s modern design captures waste heat to generate additional electricity via a steam turbine.
Clean, Domestic Fuel Source: Natural gas is a clean, abundant, domestically available fuel source that promotes U.S. energy independence.
INTERCONNECTION
Energy Transportation: To transmit the energy generated from the facility, the Project will also construct an approximate 2.2-mile generation tie line from the facility northward to interconnect to an existing 345kV transmission line.
Voltage: The voltage of the overhead electrical line will be 345kV; the high voltage allows for efficient transmission of power and ease of interconnection in the existing infrastructure.
Switchyard: At the point of interconnection, a switchyard will be constructed to safely interject the energy into the system.
ENVIRONMENTAL & PERMITTING CONSIDERATIONS
Ohio Power Siting Board: Chestnut Run Energy has begun the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) process to obtain a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need. The certificate ensures that the project is constructed in a manner that adheres to all local regulations and brings value to the community.
Project Footprint: Chestnut Run Energy will produce efficient generation from an efficient footprint. The proposed 30-acre facility footprint is located on a greenfield site. Natural gas, electrical interconnections, and other required utility infrastructure are located nearby.
Carbon Displacement: The technology at Chestnut Run Energy will produce cleaner electricity, avoiding nearly 65% of the CO2 emissions of a coal-generating facility and 35% of a typical single-cycle natural gas generator.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Construction Jobs: Chestnut Run Energy will provide approximately 500 construction jobs, prioritizing local and regional labor sources throughout the facility's three-year construction period.
Post-construction Jobs: Once in operation, Chestnut Run Energy will create approximately 20 full-time jobs, including engineering, management, and operations personnel.
Indirect Jobs: Chestnut Run Energy will create additional employment opportunities, including many contracted services such as security, catering, landscaping, property maintenance, and more.
ECONOMIC BENEFITS
Investment: Chestnut Run Energy will be an over $1.5 billion million capital investment in Carroll County.
Local Purchasing: The facility will benefit the Carroll County economy through the direct purchase of local goods and services, creating a positive impact from direct, indirect, and induced economic stimuli. For example, during construction and operations, employees will be staying in Carroll County, frequenting local restaurants and other establishments, and providing additional economic benefits to the community.
SITING WAIVERS
No Requested Waivers: Chestnut Run will fully comply with all standard siting requirements and regulations of the Ohio Power Siting Board without requesting exceptions or modifications.
